WordPress

WordPress was one of the first free, online website building applications offered which operated in a dashboard format. The user is offered the ability to edit websites through either an accessible user interface or through coding.

*UBC offers its own installation of WordPress called UBC Blogs at blogs.ubc.ca. It’s free to use for all faculty, staff and students.

Notable Features

  • The open source nature of WordPress offers continual access to new templates
  • Offers the most storage space for its free account (3 GB)
  • Compatible with other tools such as H5P (which has a plug-in specific to WordPress)

 

Limitations

  • Limited in its approach to aesthetics (for example, the platform offers a choice of only 4-5 fonts for free users)
